Salute
a pair of lads happily playing on the road reserve
a juala* ball tied with twine
a match of skill
a future Oliech?**
a shot for goal
a ball straying across a road
a car unseen
a squeal of tyres
a pair of arms in the air
a scream
a thud
a whimper
a death
a hope that he now sits with his father in heaven
*plastic bags
**Kenyan football star playing in Quatar
Always be solicitous about the welfare of those who share our roads. This is a dedication to a boy who lost his life in an accident on the road near my office earlier today on my way to work. This is his story.

I remember when we were kids we used to be told never play by the roadside. I hope this doesn’t mean thay aren’t taught such things today.

the accident occurred along Enterprise Road in Industrial Area, there are a lot of Informal Settlements so space to play in there is limited, the reason they were near the road.
